reading through bodybuilding magazines, you might often feel overwhelmed by the amount of information on supplements, new training methods, and a whole bunch of other things being yelled at in your face in big block letters and “testimonials” from the biggest, strongest people on the planet.
The unfortunate thing about nutrition, body building, or fitness in general is that large companies really stretch the limits on claims they can make legally, in order to sell off their latest supplements. It is a competitive industry, so every edge that can be used in terms of marketing is utilized to the aboslute max.
This also includes supplements. As mentioned earlier, sometimes it may feel as if you need to own every supplement out there in order to get the results you really want. You can have your dream body faster, with less effort… if you just had x supplement. Unfortunately, not only are these claims false, but many well known athletes will vouch for them, because they will be paid extremely well for their endorsements.
For most people, impossible claims are easy to resist. But for many, these claims make them excited for the future, and throw away piles of money useless junk – which can even be dangerous at times.
But are there any “supplements” that really can help you?
Yes. They don’t have ridiculous names like “fat blaster 3000” or anything like that. In fact, you’ve probably already heard of them, but passed because of their “unexciting” nature.
Below, I’ve created a small list of supplements that can help you tremendously – and the best part about it is that they’re cheap, stood the test of time, been under scrutiny, AND passed with flying colors. These are supplements that can definitely help you take your training and fitness to the next level.
Krill oil. As fitness fans, we’re constantly exposing our bodies to extreme stress that most people don’t have to ensure. Taking care of your joints is something that every weight lifter, runner, dancer, martial artist, or active person in general needs to take into account. Krill oil can “grease the wheels” of your joints, and help with stiffness, and increase your mobility. This in turn will increase the quality of your life – and performance in your sport!
ZMA. Zinc and Magnesium are known to work together in order to provide a safe, healthy testosterone boost which will help add mass, lose fat, and increase your energy levels throughout the day. You will get more out of every gym session, because it will also help tremendously with recovery times and output. It is also one of the cheapest supplements on the list, but has some of the most dramatic effects.
DHEA. Dehydro-Epiandrosterone is known as a precursor to male and female sex hormones, including testosterone and estrogen. Precursors are substances that are converted by the body into a hormone. DHEA naturally begins to dwindle at around age 25, and is responsible for healthy growth, energy levels, and sense of wellbeing. There are many more benefits to DHEA, but it is also a known pheromone – some products by Hax Pheromones use this ingredient. While it is still only partially understood, it is suspected that it can increase the overall pheromone output of an individual.
Green tea extract. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard numerous people rave about the many benefits of green tea, and in some circles, green tea extract. It is a powerful antioxidant known for its fat burning properties, improving sense of well being, and even making you able to think more clearly due its L-theanine content.
Many other supplements like BCAAS, whey protein, and L-glutamine, and creatine are also excellent additions to your arsenal. However, it’s important to note that the quality of these types of products can vary greatly, and proper research should be done to choose reputable brands.
